Day 3: Salas to Tineo, 23.63 km, 14.65 miles
Guidebook Information
If you are pondering a walk to Santiago de Compostela via the Camino Primitivo, don’t do it if:
- Your ascending muscle groups don’t like going uphill, and/or
- Your creaky knees don’t like going downhill, and/or
- Your shoes don’t like mud…
These persistent challenges are apparent just 3 days in.
Rise & Shine, Part II

There was one major hill to climb first thing in the morning, then 18 minor climbs with companion descents through the rest of the day. It seemed like a persistent 6-hour walk uphill. My hamstrings, glutes, calves, and brain were screaming by the end. It was all worth it, the descending arrival into Tineo was stunning!

The Albergue La Plaza is pretty good place to stay – good facilities, good views, nearby bar, nearby restaurants, and an artisan bakery right across the street!
