Walking West – Praise

Day 5 – Estella to Los Arcos, 14.56 miles

Praise for a new day, and the wisdom to secure coffee and food before leaving civilization…no hangry today.
Praise – human creativity and skill to build structures that endure the centuries.
Praise for the fruit of the vine and all its by-products.
Praise for wide-open spaces.
Praise for the most compelling story told, and the human creativity to tell it by any means necessary.

“The miraculous is not extraordinary but the common mode of existence. It is our daily bread. Whoever has really considered the lilies of the field or the birds of the air and pondered the improbability of their existence in this warm world within the cold and empty stellar distances will hardly balk at the turning of water into wine which was, after all, a very small miracle. We forget the greater and still continuing miracle by which water (with soil and sunlight) is turned into grapes.” – Wendell Berry

In addition to proper caffeination and calories, I committed my mind to gratitude and wonder during today’s walk in an effort to combat the funk. Every day is packed with opportunities to be amazed; the trick is to see.

Pilgrim! If you want to arrive in Santiago with strength and vitality, take a sip of this great wine and toast to happiness!
